Question by Claudio F: What is riskier, to buy a small business or to invest in an index fund? I read that it’s riskier to invest in a small business because of lack of diversification, while it’s safer to invest in stock funds that offer wide diversification. Any suggestions?

Answer by jeff410Basically you’re right. Statistically small businesses have a very high failure rate; about 80 percent fail in the first five years. But it depends on your skills and resources. In the long run an index fund would be better.
